Yianni. I too was deeply depressed by this concrete landscape hiding the wonderful view towards the mainland - but when I made enquiries I was told that these are caissons that will eventually be sunk in the harbour to form the quays of a marina for visiting yachts. It may be less ugly in the end. I hope so. Do you know more about the final plan? S

Mr. Baddeley, it is depressing indeed! As far as I know, the marina project is scrapped and I don't know what they will do to fix that mess....

Did the project run out of money - EU or Athens - or as there a decision to abandon it? I wonder how long the concrete will sit around. This is so sad because this should be such an attractive place. Now it remains blighted for the foreseeable future.

Yianni. I've just heard from someone involved that the government owes the construction team nearly €500,000 so they have downed tools, leaving the concrete blocks in the most obvious place in protest. The same applies to the new fruit market, where €150,000 is owed.

Mr Simon,

I don't mind using any photo of mine in your blog, as long as you refer to where you found the picture.

I've heard that the construction team has been runned out of funding for the marina. Money given for infranstructure here in Corfu most of the times disappear mysteriously....
