Ace Ventura @ Shadow, Athens - 24/01/09

Last week, I was in Athens, staying at a friend's house. There was a progressive trance party at Psirri (Israeli producer Ace Ventura played) so we decided to go. The club was full of people and the music was so loud that my ear were humming for a whole day after the party. Overall, me and my friends had a great time and hear descent prog trance.

''THE FIRST TRIP TO GOA'' night with: dj marX @ Edem, 10/01/09

Here are some photos and videos of a goa/psy trance night at Edem, which is apparently open this winter as an alternative solution of the somewhat mainstream (and boring I dare say) Corfiot nightlife. Resident dj MarX was on the decks, playing a wide range of progressive, goa and psychedelic trance.

New Years Eve at Edem Bar, Dassia!

On NYE, I decided instead of going to a very busy and mainstream bar, I preferred to go somewhere where I could listen the music I like and have a drink without getting annoyed by any overcrowding. So I went to Edem bar at Dassia, a place which is most known as a beach bar, open in summer. Most local people don't know that actually Edem is also open during the colder months of the year.

Edem is a good alternative to the overcrowded and mainstream Corfu Town bars, offering nights with different kind of music, ranging from rock music to trance and psychedelic. There is also a nice fireplace which makes the place feel warm and welcoming.

Here are some photos and one video from my NYE at Edem. Dj Dimo Koursaris on the decks - known as the resident dj of the now long gone Hippodrome club:

Free Downloads: Great Trance tracks by dutch dj Daniel Wanrooy

Great tracks, you can download them for free.

Daniel Wanrooy biography:

Background: Hailing from the flatlands of Dordrecht, Southern Holland, Daniel Wanrooy has been influencing the playlists of some of the world’s top DJs for over 6 years. Both as one half of highly-lauded duos Progression & Odyssee and as a standalone artist, his evocative, imaginative music has successfully cross-bred virtually every sub-genre of trance.
Progression & Odyssee PT 1: 2004 though proved to be Daniel’s big, graduating year as he banded together with fellow friend & producer Robin van de Wiel… Pooling resources as well as knowledge they released several tracks before launching a second act under the name Progression. Touting around various Dutch labels, they were snapped up by Fundamental Recordings. The 12” ‘Purify’ & ‘Ocean Green’ (2004) were quickly followed by ‘Indeep Sounds’ & ‘Sands of Time’ in 2005.
Progression & Odyssee PT 2: It was around this time that Daniel flew unmistakably onto the radar of über trance talent-spotter Tiësto. Over the last three years, the luminary’s has used an unprecedented 4 tracks of Daniel’s work on his mega-selling ‘In Search of Sunrise’ series. In 2005 Odyssee moved over to Blackhole with the pair licensing the double-header ‘Frontline’ & ‘Evolution’. In tandem, they also moved Progression over its sub-label I.T.W.T. (In Trance We Trust) with ‘Superstitious’ and subsequently onto Magik Muzik for ‘Technophobia’ & ‘Loving Memories’ in 06.
Progression – The Album: Staying true to the act’s name (and completing the circuit of Tiësto’s labels) Progression unleashed their debut long-player ‘Different Day, Different Light’ in 07 on Blackhole. Marked up by MTV as “two hours of fascinating music”, it received a huge reception from press and DJs alike.
Daniel Wanrooy - the DJ: A wish to see his tracks working from the perspective of the DJ booth along with a desire to travel the globe prompted Daniel to take the DJing plunge in 2003. Signed onto the books of the Global Twist Music agency, DJ dates have given him an invaluable POV, increasing his knowledge of how to make his music even more floor-effective. He has subsequently warmed up for Tiësto, spun at the legendary Heineken Hall in Amsterdam & played to 15,000 strong crowds across Europe. He now DJ’s regularly in the UK, as well as dates right across the world.
The Future: Into 2008 Daniel is continuing work under both his collaboration monikers as well as laying the ground for his first solo album

Daniel Vanrooy & DJ Vierro @ Romeo & Juliet, 17-10-2008

What a night! I haven't been to a trance party for years and this was the night to do so! Dutch dj Daniel Vanrooy and greek dj Vierro rocked the decks in an unfortunately near empty "Romeo & Juliet" club with massive classic trance tunes. Trance events in our island are somewhat rare and when there is one, it should not be missed for any reason!

Here are some pics and vids:

Sunny Clayton @ Edem Corfu, 23-08-08

Psychedelic trance events are rare in our island. The nature of this music is for less. A non-commercialized genre which trace its roots from the early raves of the late 80s and early 90s. Sunny Clayton is a Hamburg based psychedelic dj who comes every year to the Edem beach bar in Dassia to play some descent psy stuff, which can be scarcely heard in any other occassion. He played lots of Astrix and some other tracks of artists like Analog Pussy. We had such a great time there, we were a company of 8 persons doing no other thing than dancing!

Check the pics and the videos:

Sasha @ Romeo & Juliet 14-08-08

A great and legendary dj, Sasha from UK, appeared this month at the brand new club "Romeo & Juliet" at the disco strip. I think he is the greatest name ever brought by a local club and quite reasonably he attracted a great local and tourist crowd. For this year, Sasha is No 5 in the DJ Mag's Top-100 DJs. Actually for the last ten years, his rank never dropped below place 7, and his best year was 2000, in which he reached the top of the list (It was the year that seminal dance tracks like "Xpander" and "Scorchio" had been released).

Anyway, I'm posting two videos and some pics below, just to have some idea of how was that night like:

Even Star Channel was there to cover the event!

Atmos @ Galea, Corfu 11-07-08 ~ Pics, Videos and some Impressions

Yeah, Atmos came for a second time in Corfu (he came last year too at the same venue) and he played as good as always. Being a legendary Goa and Psy trance Dj born in Sweden, Atmos is well known for his endless open air parties in distant places like Brazil or Japan. Lately he is into more progressive trance sounds, incorporating some goa elements(you can't forget your past, right?).

Let's move to the pictures and vids now:
