Hailing from California, John Graham (also known as "Quivver") is a legend among those who really love what is called Progressive house music.
Maybe that was why the club was far from being full yesterday, the event attracted mostly progressive house music lovers. That's a pity because I think Graham deserved a bigger audience. Moreover, a more extensive promotion of the event should have been done.
If you were among those who didn't know about the event, don't worry! The good news is that a mega star dj, Jerome Isma-ae is going to rock the decks of Au Bar with the dawn of new year!!
On NYE, I decided instead of going to a very busy and mainstream bar, I preferred to go somewhere where I could listen the music I like and have a drink without getting annoyed by any overcrowding. So I went to Edem bar at Dassia, a place which is most known as a beach bar, open in summer. Most local people don't know that actually Edem is also open during the colder months of the year.
Edem is a good alternative to the overcrowded and mainstream Corfu Town bars, offering nights with different kind of music, ranging from rock music to trance and psychedelic. There is also a nice fireplace which makes the place feel warm and welcoming.
Here are some photos and one video from my NYE at Edem. Dj Dimo Koursaris on the decks - known as the resident dj of the now long gone Hippodrome club:
Ame - Rej: A great progressive track which made its way to mainstream success:
One of the most promising djs of the new branch, Funkagenda appeared yesterday at Au Bar. Hail from Kent, UK and many respected and famous djs call him "phenomenon". Famous for his remixes to other artists (my favourite is his remix for Fatboy Slim's Star 69), he has made some good productions on his own.
Enjoy a sample of yesterday's night:

What a night! I haven't been to a trance party for years and this was the night to do so! Dutch dj Daniel Vanrooy and greek dj Vierro rocked the decks in an unfortunately near empty "Romeo & Juliet" club with massive classic trance tunes. Trance events in our island are somewhat rare and when there is one, it should not be missed for any reason!
One week after Sasha's dj set, another two famous djs played at another club in the disco strip. Japanese Satoshie Tomiie and American Hector Romero rocked the decks at Au Bar. They didn't play back to back, Satoshie played from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. and Hector from 5 a.m. to 8.30 a.m.! Though the former played somehow relaxed in the beginning, he started banging some cool tunes by 4 a.m. Hector Romero played some funky american house but towards the end, he was more progressive in style.
A great and legendary dj, Sasha from UK, appeared this month at the brand new club "Romeo & Juliet" at the disco strip. I think he is the greatest name ever brought by a local club and quite reasonably he attracted a great local and tourist crowd. For this year, Sasha is No 5 in the DJ Mag's Top-100 DJs. Actually for the last ten years, his rank never dropped below place 7, and his best year was 2000, in which he reached the top of the list (It was the year that seminal dance tracks like "Xpander" and "Scorchio" had been released).
Anyway, I'm posting two videos and some pics below, just to have some idea of how was that night like:
