Vidos northern beach...a secluded paradise across the town

    For the next two weeks I'm going to post things about Vidos, the small island just across the busy port of Corfu Town. The island has no permanent residents. During summer, it is full of tourists and locals who cherish its calmness. 

   There are few beaches around the island. For me, the most beautiful is the north one which faces the Pantokrator mountain range while most of the little ones face the port. It is an organized beach with cabins, WC and tables. There is no beach bar or any other sign of civilization.

   It is unbelievable how close but at the same time far away from the hustle and the bustle of the town is this beach. I recommend a visit to such a beautiful little island full of pines and secluded little beaches with crystaline blue waters. Check the photos below, click to enlarge them.

The Mirtiotissa beach paradise

   Recently, a greek travellers site called Voyager-tv uploaded to its YouTube channel a marvellous video demonstrating the beauty of Mirtiotissa beach a paradise for nudists and for those who love secluded beaches.
I have heard that Mirtiotissa had been voted as one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide. By seeing the video you can see why it got that dinstinction.

At the top of Aerostato hill

   Aerostato hill offers some good panoramic views of the central western part of Corfu island. On your right hand side you get a marvellous view of Agios Gordios beach and on the opposite one you can see Glyfada beach, Pelekas village and Myrtiotissa monastery. Also, it is a good look out point to watch the beautiful Ionian sunset. There is also a cafeteria there from which you can drink your coffee admiring the view below you. Aerostato can be reached easily from Sinarades village following the signs.

The excellent sandy Marathias beach

   It is a rainy day in Corfu today but let's cheer ourselves up with those summer images of Marathias beach. This wide and sandy beach is located near Vitalades, a village in south Corfu. It is not as exploited as Glyfada. The middle part of it is the busiest one with two beach bars offering free umbrellas and chairs and the northern and southern stretch being less busy and preferred by nudists. The surf is strong enough there due to the beach's position facing the southwest. Thus, when winds are strong, it is a perfect spot for surfers.

    The beach is accessible only by car. The nearest bus passes from Vitalades but it is a kinda long walk from the village to the beach. 

Agios Gordios on a windy day with huge waves

  These pictures were taken last week when 7 beaufort north-western winds prevailed the island creating huge  waves at the northern and werstern shore. The waves in Agios Gordios were nearly 2 metres tall making it difficult to swim as long as the sea currents made it impossible to move as you swimmed. 

  

Liapades beach in the sunset

     Corfu's west coast is known for its sunsets. Yesterday I hit the west coast in search of it and I ended up in Liapades, a coastal village close to Paleokastritsa. Unfortunately, the sun was setting more northenly hidden behind the mountains but I achieved to take some vividly coloured photos of the beach at sunset time.
